Cheese and Crackers Grown-up Style

Creamy, crunchy, sweet, salty, tangy

Creamy, crunchy, salty, sweet, and tangy. Here’s a very grown-up snack I stumbled upon: goat cheese and honey on wheat crackers. Talk about wonderful! The only problem is that I could eat them all day long.

My cracker of choice is always Keebler Townhouse Crackers Wheat flavor. Don’t misunderstand, these are wheat flavored crackers not wheat crackers. They are not any “better for you” than the typical Townhouse cracker, but I think the salty, nutty, earthy flavor really showcases cheese at its best. I much prefer these crackers to your typical cheese crackers-or water crackers, bleh.

Ready for a flavor and texture adventure? Let’s go. Start with your favorite salted, flavorful cracker of choice. Spread over a good sized dollop of plain, soft goat cheese. On top, a single drop of real honey completes each bite-sized adventure. The goat cheese is creamy and tangy, like a good yogurt. The cracker: nutty, crispy and buttery. Finally, the honey adds a touch of heady sweetness.

The fancy version of this is brie and wildflower or orange blossom honey on a crostini. Great party food, but too labor intensive for a snack. This gives you that same flavor combo, but I think an even greater range of textures and flavors in a much more accessible vessel.

Try it today, you won’t regret it!

Not an advertisement. I really Love these crackers.

I love doing something similar with lavender honey…yummy.

Sounds great! If you’re up for experimentation, crackers with blue cheese, honey, and a drop of truffle oil are delicious. An odd flavour, certainly, but fantastic.

I really want to invest in some truffle oil, but haven’t yet found a worthy source. I also need some blue cheese pairing tips, I am too afraid of failure to try on my own. -Katie

oh, yum!! my favorite is baking a wheel of brie topped with minced garlic and honey inside a ramekin… the garlic roasts inside the honey and becomes really sweet offsetting the cheese perfectly. This seems like an ideal alternative for those days that I just need my cheese fix asap 🙂

That sounds delicious! Thank goodness it’s grocery day! -Katie
